What you need to know if you want to do Jewish outreach
In lesson 14 of Likutey Moharan, Rebbe Nachman teaches us that the only way to increase peace in the world is by returning ‘honor’ back to its root, i.e. back to Hashem.
And Hashem is ‘honored’ when those people who are very far away from God return to Him.
The only way to bring non-yet-observant Jews and converts back to Hashem is by way of the Torah. By learning Torah, we can bring these Jews back, because every soul is rooted in a letter of the Torah.
In Mishlei, it’s written: “Your wellsprings will explode outwards.”
What this means, practically, is that we have nourish those who are on the ‘outside’, and we have to light up every soul who is currently beyond the bounds of holiness, wherever they may actually be right now.
And how can we do this?
By learning Torah.
But Rebbe Nachman teaches us that the only way we can acquire this sort of Torah – the sort of Torah that can bring people back to God, and light up Jewish souls – is via humility and lowliness.
The more a person acquires some humility, the more lowliness and set-backs they experience, the greater their ability will be to bring Jewish souls back to God.
